Meh
After a lazy Sunday morning of doing naught but sleep in, I proceeded to draw the non-productivity of the morning into the rest of the day. Idle piddling around turned into surfing DA, which in turn became going through the backlog of messages and deviations and whatnot from the people I watch. A few things became abundantly clear:
1) I watch too many people.
2) There is not enough time in the day to properly go through the whole mess of stuff that those I watch put out daily. Gah.
After that particular stream of thoughts, a few less abundant thoughts coalesced into another pair of ideas:
1)I should organize those I watch into more specific categories.
2)I should thin out those I watch to those I actually care to watch.
If that didn't make sense, that's all well and good. It didn't make sense to me, either.
Meh.
So aside from that, this venture into the bowels of my backlog has brought up some interesting thoughts. If you're still reading this and plan to continue the slog, kudos to you.
1) Twilight
Until a few months ago, I didn't even know this book existed. I am, in fact, an avid reader, but bookstores tend to make me walk around in a daze of quietly contained joy that makes me feel so darn giddy that for a while I can only stare blissfully at the plethora of books around me. As a consequence, by the time I wake up I'm already in the sections I prefer - History, Science, Nature, Pets, Language, Classical Literature, and Science Fiction/Fantasy. Somehow I manage to completely not notice all the humongous displays, galling the hard work and years of training those advertising companies employ.
Ah well. I digress. Back to the point if there was one.
The book was recommended to me by one of the veterinarians I work with. A wonderful person with an eye for a good read, she let me borrow her copy of Twilight for my vacation. My impression was a nice read for a trip - mindless, yet engaging enough to make you interested and feel the hours of lazing on a cruise ship have been well spent. The characters might have been a bit overdramatic at times, but they were recognizable. Meyer's take on vampires - bodies of marble, eyes that changed in relation to how recent a meal, no fangs, glittering in the sunlight ... it was a little more original in my book. She gets a gold star for thinking about the details.
Bottom line: It was no Great Work, but a nice diversion.
And then Holy Heifer, Mother of Holsteins. What is with you people? I run across one reference to the book and discover a violently charged atmosphere where the book is either powerfully loved or unbendingly hated. It's apparently been popular for years, and they're making a MOVIE out of the first book. A MOVIE! The trailer is set to cause aneurysms, and I twitched painfully during the whole thing and begged to be allowed to just watch Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for the third time and skip the Trailer of Doom.
Meh. I digress again.
Not to start a brushfire without putting in place the firebreaks, but what do you all think of the series?
